Visiting Research Programmer

Overview:

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has one Visiting Research Programmer position available. The primary function of the Visiting Research Programmer is to provide experienced computational research programming support for NCSA academic, government and industrial users in the use and development of techniques for image and document processing. This position is also responsible for developing new techniques and software for geospatial image and PDF document analyses, providing coordination and leadership for the development and implementation of computational algorithms on varied supercomputing platforms to solve grand challenge problems and tracking research activity, especially geospatial data analysis, provenance, and document analysis research.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in computer science or a related field required, Ph.D preferred. Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to relevant NCSA technologies and projects).
  • Professional software development experience beyond the Bachelor's degree is highly desirable.

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of research field, ability to bridge several disciplines, ability to work with fellow scientist and administrators and experience supervising student research.
  • Capacity for self-education and the ability to assimilate new knowledge quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, human relations and team building skills.
  • Ability to foster and maintain collaborations with academic, government and industrial researchers.

This is an academic professional position at NCSA and is a 12-month, 100%-time appointment with regular University benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and start date will be as soon as possible after the close date of the search. Interviews may be conducted before the closing date, although no hiring decisions will be made until after the search has closed. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and may become regular at a later date.
