NCSA has designed a VR website as a meeting ground for
CAVE(tm) and ImmersaDesk(tm) users and support staff.
CAVERNUS (CAVE Research Network Users Society) is a
worldwide resource where users can make connections,
share ideas, and plan for future innovations.
The site consists of
- a list of companies and institutions with CAVEs or
ImmersaDesks
- a HyperNews discussion forum with email hooks for
asynchronous communication
- a gallery of VR application descriptions, with
links to an FTP site of shareable demonstration
programs
Email participation will be conducted in a HyperNews
forum. This provides for flexible threading and
selective participation while reducing "noise" for
those with specific interests. The initial HyperNews
forum will discuss the organization of the group. As
the forum grows, it will be split into separate
topics, including
- Computer Hardware
- This discussion group will focus on computers
running CAVEs and ImmersaDesks -- especially SGIs -- and
PCs processing wand signals, tracking control, and
voice recognition.
- Networking
- This forum is concerned with connecting VR computers
to supercomputer arrays, peripheral PCs, and to the
Internet.
- Audio/Video, Wands, and Other Peripherals
- The forum for discussions about screens,
projectors, wands, calibration, audio playback, and
cameras.
- CAVE Library Software
- Dialogs will center around new and old versions of
the CAVE Library. (The library runs both CAVEs and
ImmersaDesks.)
- Application Programming
- A forum for sharing ideas, problems, and solutions
about programs built on top of the CAVE Library.
If you would like to be involved in CAVERNUS, you can
occasionally visit the site and the forums, or you can
subscribe to the top level of the current forum to
receive email of all postings. Becoming a member of
the forum, though not necessary, conveniently
registers any contact information you provide.
