- HP I/O Characterization Facility
Announced
- The Pablo Research Group, headed by Alliance Director Dan Reed, recently announced
the opening of a
national facility for high-performance I/O characterization and optimization. Staff in the
facility
hope to help researchers and educators overcome limitations imposed by I/O on the overall
performance of
petascale computing systems. §
- Alliance Developing User Portal
- Teams in the Alliance are working to develop a user portal for high-performance and
high-throughput
users of Alliance systems. This specialized web-based interface should collect tools and
information
that computational researchers need to accomplish their computing goals.
§
- Survey on Parallel Supercomputer Usage
Results Reported
- Were you one of the more than 200 people participating in the parallel supercomputer
usage survey noted in last month's
issue of data link? If so you will likely be interested in the
survey results as interpreted by coordinator Walfredo Cirne.

- NLANR Guide on
Network Distributed Resources Now Available
- The Beginner's Guide to Network-Distributed Resources is now available.
Each chapter
is
easily printed so interested readers can quickly compile a desktop resource.
§
- New Issue of NLANR Packets
- If you are interested in advanced networking applications, check out the recently
posted issue of the National Laboratory for Advanced Network Research newsletter that
contains
both news and feature articles.

Conferences and Workshops & Training Events
-
Alliance Sponsoring Chautauquas
- You still have time to make plans to attend the June Chautauqua at OSC in Ohio or the
August event at the University of Kansas. This year's agenda focuses on the power of the
Grid.
Not sure what Chautauquas are and why you would
want to sign up? Take a look at this overview of the event for more information.
§
- CSCoRE 2000 Conference
- Explore the issues in providing a collaborative
research environment that is both open and secure by attending this late June conference
at
Brookhaven National Laboratory. Computer security has taken on increasing importance
because of
overt and unintended compromises to computing and communications infrastructures. Join
others in
this open forum.
