PACI Program Includes New Systems

The computational resources available to the national community recently increased with the availability of the Alliance-funded LosLobos Linux cluster at the Albuquerque High Performance Computing Center (AHPCC) and the 512-processor CRAY T3E system at the Pittsburgh Supercompting Center (PSC). AHPCC is an Alliance computational resource partner. The National Science Foundation's Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure (PACI) now includes the T3E pending the availability of PSC's terascale system, which is expected to be available some time in 2001.

Researchers may request time on the T3E by applying to the Alliance peer-review boards. The next deadline for proposal submission is January 8, 2001.

Start-up accounts (10,000 service units or fewer) on both systems may be requested at any time. These accounts are handled locally. For a start-up on LosLobos, complete the AHPCC request form. For time on the T3E, complete the PSC request form. Such proposals may be submitted at any time. Allow 2-4 weeks for review.

More information on the various high-performance and high-throughput systems available under the PACI program and through the Alliance allocation boards is available online.
