Legislation is currently being drafted in the Senate that would prohibit the creation of a tiered Internet.
Software Releases
NMI-R9
New for this release is NMI-EDIT’s End-to-END Diagnostic Discovery (EDDY) Toolkit that supports integrated analysis and diagnosis of distributed, layered and interdependent components and systems, as well as the first production release of the Signet Privilege Management System. Updated components for NMI-R9 include the Grouper Group Management Toolkit and an additional ten tools, software packages, practice documents, and schema that support institutional and federated identity management environments. Included also is OGCE Version 2.0, which provides a toolkit for building science-portal gateways. Newly incorporated collaboration tools provide calendar scheduling, document sharing and chat functions, all based on Sakai™. Also supported are the Globus® Toolkit 4.0.1 services of credential acquisition, PURSe Grid account management, and Storage Brokering. The OGCE portlet software and plugin modules are now also integrated with the GridSphere 2.1 portal container and include GridPort information and file management, which may be deployed as separate "science gateway" services.
Globus Toolkit 4.0.2
New binaries available for download at the Globus website include the GRAM adapters for PBS, LSF, and Condor.
HDF5 1.8.0 Alpha 1
The 1.8.0 release represents a major update in the HDF5 library and utilities. Many new capabilities have been added, along with improved performance. Details on these capabilities may be found at the website. (Note: This alpha release is made available for users who are interested in trying out new features in the HDF5 1.8.0 release. However, it does not include all of the functions that will be in the final 1.8.0 release, and some features (function names, behavior) may change before the final 1.8.0 release.)
Access Grid Toolkit 3.0
Release highlights include Jabber client integration, integrated meeting schedule viewer, improved venue navigation, updates and improvements to VenueClient, integrated per-Venue Multicast Beacon client, integrated beacon matrix, new bridging facility, added RAT and VIC capabilities, and added features for Windows users.
