NCSA Allocations & Accounts

An allocation is a grant of computing time on an NCSA (or other TeraGrid) compute resource. Allocations are subject to review and are typically awarded for one year, though some are multi-year awards. Any researcher or educator at a U.S. academic, nonprofit, or industry research institution serving as a Principle Investigator (PI) may receive an allocation. General eligibility requirements are described in the current National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant Proposal Guide. A researcher or educator who does not meet the general eligibility requirements may still be eligible to receive an allocation. NCSA is a TeraGrid resource provider. Allocations for NSF researchers are also awarded through the TeraGrid allocations process. For information about TeraGrid Allocations, visit TeraGrid Allocations and Accounts.

Requests for allocations for non-TeraGrid NCSA allocations may be submitted directly to the NCSA Allocations Support Group or via mechanisms provided by the following associated programs:

  • Course Account allocations are comprised of a maximum 5,000 SUs for educators who wish to use high-performance computers for their classes. These accounts can be requested by completing NCSA Allocations' online Course Account Request Form.
  • Private Sector Program — NCSA's partnership program with industry leaders where theoretical and applied research merge to solve real-world problems.
  • Institute for Advanced Computing Applications and Technology (IACAT) — The Institute promotes synergies between the UIUC research faculty and NCSA staff, positioning both for contributing to the solution of the nation's most challenging problems.
  • UIUC Faculty Fellows Program — The Faculty Fellows Program, jointly funded by NCSA and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, extends opportunities in advanced computing and information technology to University faculty.
