AIX 5 3 upgrade
NCSA's IBM p690 Upgrade to AIX 5.3
updated: 23 November 2005
The testing and friendly user period for AIX 5.3 on NCSA's IBM p690
(copper) was successful, so the remaining systems will be upgraded
as planned. All IBM p690 systems will be taken out of service on
Monday, November 28. At that time, all batch jobs will be removed
from the queues and all 32-processor systems will be upgraded to
AIX 5.3. The fully upgraded system is expected to be available
for production use by Wednesday, November 30.
cu11.ncsa.uiuc.edu will be new login node for the upgraded system.
Host names cu.ncsa.uiuc.edu and copper.ncsa.uiuc.edu will be
redirected to cu11 instead of cu12. You may also connect directly
to cu11.ncsa.uiuc.edu.
The scratch filesystems now on cu12 will be moved to their default
locations on all systems: /scratch/users and /scratch/batch. The
scratch filesystems now on cu11 will be moved to /scratch.cu11/users
and /scratch.cu11/batch. Please copy any files you want to save from
those directories as soon as possible. The old cu11 scratch filesystems
will be removed from service on Thursday, December 15.
Here are the differences between the old and new software stacks:
