Staging Unitree Files

Since UniTree is an enormous mass storage system, not all files can reside on disk. Most files are stored on tape. Staging is simply the process of moving a file from tape to disk.

How can I stage files in UniTree?

Use the stage and mstage commands. The syntax is as follows:
    quote stage <waittime> <filename>

where waittime is the time you want to wait in seconds before the file is staged. The range is 0-300 seconds.
    quote mstage <waittime> <files>

The mstage command allows you to specify multiple filenames as well as wildcards.

I requested that my UniTree file be staged to disk many hours ago. The file is still in archive. What can I do?

If the stage fails during working hours (8:30am - 5pm, central standard time) then email consult@ncsa.uiuc.edu or call (217) 244-1144 with the difficulty. If the stage fails during non-working hours then call (217) 244-0710.
